Essay 19 said that everyone is learning continuously on non-identical data.
This page takes the consequence seriously.
If two boundaries have occupied different positions in the world, they have not sampled the same world. They may share a language, culture, body plan, classroom, city, family, or field, but they have not had the same stream of surprise. They have not stood in exactly the same place with exactly the same history and exactly the same stakes.
Therefore their models cannot be substituted for one another without loss.
This is not politeness. It is not a moral slogan dressed as epistemology. It is a claim about information.
Every perspective is non-redundant.
Non-redundant does not mean correct. It does not mean wise. It does not mean equally reliable, equally careful, or equally useful for every question. It means that, because a different boundary sampled a different trajectory, something is present there that is not present anywhere else in exactly the same way.
Unique means non-redundant.
Non-redundant means informative.
The beetle learned something from the ant.
It had not gone down the tunnel. It had not seen the far end. It had not touched the food. But an ant came out not thin, not frightened, and carrying a crumb. That was evidence from a body that had been where the beetle had not.
The ant's perspective was not interchangeable with the beetle's. The ant had sampled a part of the world the beetle could not yet sample. The beetle could use that signal without becoming the ant and without treating the ant as infallible.
That is the social form of intelligence in miniature.
A population learns by distributing boundaries. One creature goes where another has not. One person notices what another misses. One field measures what another cannot. One body carries constraints another body never had to model. If the channels remain open, the population can buy more world than any member could afford alone.
This is why perspective diversity is not a courtesy.
