Bandwidth is what separates inheritance from continuation. Everything in this movement follows from that one sentence, and none of it requires a new mechanism.

Movement IV is the most exposed part of the arc.
It talks about uploading, migration, copies, bodies, companions, and futures that do not yet exist. That makes it easy to misunderstand as a forecast, a promise, or a plan. It is none of those. It is a stress test. If the framework built in Movements I through III cannot handle the hardest identity case, then it was not strong enough.
So the movement begins with its least speculative claim.

We already know the shape. Essay 15 said that evolution, teaching, writing, and culture transmit structure through narrow channels. A genome gives a child a recipe for a learner, not the parent's memory layer. A book gives a reader compressed signs, not the author's mind. A teacher gives a student pointers, examples, corrections, and habits, not the teacher's life history.
That is inheritance.
Something travels. Something matters. Something survives.
But the next system has to learn the world for itself.
Inheritance is what happens when a channel carries too little to preserve the memory layer itself.
A parent gives a child genes, care, language, tools, stories, warnings, and a world already shaped by prior lives. The child is changed by all of that. The child may resemble the parent, honor the parent, continue the parent's work, or carry the parent's values farther than the parent could. Still, the child is not the parent continuing.
A book can carry a voice across centuries. It can alter a reader's life. It can preserve arguments, images, methods, jokes, recipes, and grief. Still, reading a book is not waking as the author.
A culture can preserve rituals, laws, instruments, mathematics, and histories. It can make a dead person's thoughts active in later minds. Still, culture is not personal survival unless the actual memory layer of the person is recoverable as the next moment of that person.
Inheritance is powerful precisely because it does not require continuation. It lets partial structure outlive the boundary that produced it.
But it is not the same thing.
